Our Collection Travels - Tayeba Begum Lipi and Monica Bonvicini featured in 'Engagées' @Villa Datris

We are thrilled to announce that two works from our collection are featured in the exhibition ‘ENGAGÉES’ at the Fondation Villa Datris in L’Isle-sur-la-Sorgue (France), on view until November 2, 2025. Among many powerful pieces, discover bold artworks by Tayeba Begum Lipi and Monica Bonvicini. Founded in 2011 by Danièle Marcovici and Tristan Fourtine in L’Isle-sur-la-Sorgue, the Fondation Villa Datris is dedicated to contemporary sculpture. Each year, it presents thematic exhibitions bringing together emerging artists and leading figures from the national and international art scenes. The group show ‘ENGAGÉES’ brings together 64 artists from around the world whose works address urgent contemporary issues: feminism, ecofeminism, human rights, anti-racism, and body autonomy. An exhibition that reminds us many struggles are far from over. From our collection: ~ ‘Lonely Chair’ by Tayeba Begum Lipi (°1969, Bangladesh) – Part of a larger series of memory-laden objects made from thousands of razor blades, this work specifically addresses the violence faced by women in Bangladesh, while also referencing the rudimentary tools still frequently used during childbirth in the country’s most disadvantaged regions. ~ ‘Beltdecke #4’ by Monica Bonvicini (°1965, Italy). This work subverts gender dynamics: sewing and craftwork, historically associated with women’s labor, are transformed into a leather blanket — a tapestry that tells a different narrative from the one we’re accustomed to.
