Elodie Antoine featured in the Exhibition 'Family Matters' at Fondation Boghossian - Villa Empain (Brussels)

Always thrilled to see one artwork from our collection exhibited in a major art institution. ‘Chaises à bascule' (2009) by Elodie Antoine is part of the collective show ‘Family Matters’ at Fondation Boghossian.

The exhibition presents a narrative built on a dialogue between artworks that successively broach the themes of childhood, the couple, parents and grandparents, brotherhood, sisterhood, sexuality, and intergenerational transmission. Through a series of videos, installations, sculptures, paintings and drawings.

Elodie Antoine (°1978, Belgium) lives and works in Brussels. The artist uses flexible materials: thread, felted wool, fabric; that she treats using traditional techniques such as sewing and lace. In this way, she attempts to combine domestic, feminine arts, which were historically considered a minor art, with the industrial, masculine universe erected in the public space. With ‘Chaises à bascule’, two rocking chairs tied together face each other, is she suggesting the beginning of a duel or the start of a conversation ?
